Other census seem to agree a birth of 1855/56 Great Yarmouth.

Going by Grandfather and age of his daughters my guess would be -

Maria Bowthorpe mother of William 1856 illegitimate

Maria Bowthorpe married William Collins 1857

William aged 5 with Maria and William as William Collins in 1861 census aged 5

Maria Collins died 1862 and William back as Bowthorpe with grandparents in 1871.
