Yes I can found him as a Sergent & the baptisms of the first 3 children gives Constable, the latter 2 stating 'Head Constable'. Does the word 'Head' mean he was in charge and if so does that mean of the local police or the whole of Johannesburg? The previous generation of my family were under the impression that he was in charge of the whole of Johannesburg? I have my doubts.

Thomas was in the Boer War. I have an envelope addressed to my Grandmother dated Feb. 1900. This has Pvt T Stork 4494 Gord Highs S Africa. He was in the Gordon Highlanders & was wounded on 18 Feb 1900 at Paardeberg just days after this letter was posted. He returned to England but he had fallen in love with South Africa & returned there permanently.
