John Westbury, was born in Gloucestershire, England 1824.
« on: Tuesday 25 September 18 02:04 BST (UK) »
Hi Sarah,
I am seeking details of my Great Grandfather, John Westbury, who married Anne Page 1856, had a daughter, Cassandra, they arrived in Australia on the Castilian in New South Wales (I assume Sydney) 13 June 1858.  I am unable to find a death notice for Cassandra, who died 1858 nor Anne Westbury died around 1873
New South Wales say no record. I also cannot obtain any unassisted passenger list for that voyage. 16 people died on the voyage, I wonder why?
Regards Grahame

NSW BDM online index, deaths
Cassandra WESTBURY parents as John and Ann, death registered Raymond Terrace district, 1858, #5260.

https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history/family-history.aspx

An official transcription will give you all the same details as a real deal certificate, including where buried.

ADD date of Cassandra's death deduces to 18 September 1858.

TROVE has mention of the Castilian's voyage, stating that there were 15 deaths on the voyage - 4 adults, 11 children, and detailing a storm during the voyage (very scary I would think!)

This article gives an account of the voyage from the health aspect as an inquest was held re a person who died later in Sydney, whose cousin believed  his death to be the result of bad treatment on the Castilian although the inquest found the death not to be related to his voyage onthe Castilian.
