Translation of Danish Death Record Needed Please.
« on: Wednesday 26 September 18 00:26 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I have found a death record for my 3x gt uncle Peder Jensen, but am in need of a translation of it please.

The death occurred in the parish of Kongens Lyngby in Kobenhavn county, Denmark in 1913, it is entry number 61.

Hopefully there should be a snip of the record for translation below.

If the snip isn't what is needed for translation here is a link to the original: https://www.danishfamilysearch.com/sogn625/churchbook/source13496/opslag837654

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

I've had a go at the column headings using Google translate.  Starting from the left:-

Date of death and where

Burial place and date

Deceased name

Deceased position and residence

Age

For this column Google came up with:-  of which praise the request is made - which didn't make sense to me.

Annotations

Have you considered asking the people who run the website for a translation of the column headings?

I haven't made an attempt at the handwriting, it's a bit difficult to read   ::)

I think this line

of which praise the request is made

could be the name of the priest (praest) at the burial.

7 October, Lyngby, Rovidgatan 84

Burial place and date
Gentolfle Churchyard, 11 October

Deceased name
Peder Jensen

Deceased position and residence
Married (gift). Can’t make our anything else except the date 8 March 1842 (date of birth?)

Age
71 years

Priest
Jantsen

Annotations

Pontifex - Bucks
Goldhurst - London, Middx, Herts

Churchyard is Gentofte. Date of birth is correct. I think the part between "Gift" and the d.o.b. is his occupation, but I'm struggling to read it - something to do with a factory perhaps  _ _o_fabrikan, Rovidgaden 84.

Pity this wasn't posted a day earlier - I had Danish visitors who have just left!

Looking again at the address, I don't think the first letter is an R.  I think it should be  Hovedgade, which does still exist.

Hi
This is how I see it.

Buried in Gentofte cemetry.
Married, ?, (some kind of) cloth (leather) or shoe maker, Hovedgaden 84. Born 8 March 1842 in Grenaa

added.... Skotöjsfabrikant = cobbler. (I believe)

Hi Girl Guide, Vance Mead, Isabel H & Jamcat95,

Many thanks indeed for your replies & the assistance with translation, very much appreciated.

Hmmm, I find myself slightly perplexed, do I actually have the right Peder Jensen here?

Peder Jensen married my 3x gt Aunt Susannah Elizabeth Bauer on 15th December 1877 at St James Church Westminster. He was a Bootmaker by trade & gave his father's name as Jens Jensen a farmer.

In 1881 Peter/Peder Jensen & Susannah/Susan are in London (Oxford Street area from memory), Peter stating that he was born in Yelland, Denmark in about 1844/45 (I believe Yelland to be Jorlunde, Fredriksborg, Denmark, then after that I lost them. Until recently when I found a 1914 British probate record for Peder/Peter, which reads as follows:

Jensen Peter of Lyngby in Denmark died 7th October 1913
Administration (with Will limited) London 5th February to
Alfred Leete paint manufacturer the lawful attorney of
Gustav Malling. Effects £9531 7s 2d.
Resworn £4765 13s 7d.

Alfred Leete was the husband of Susannah/Susan's sister Charlotte Rebecca Bauer therefore Susannah's brother in law. Susannah passed away in 1919 in Barnes, Surrey & I have her probate record as well.

Do I have the correct Peder/Peter Jensen's death record? I would welcome any thoughts that anyone may have on this, as I do find that I am rather uncertain about the above record being the right one.

Many thanks again for all assistance so far.

Kind regards

David

If I am looking at the right entry for the 1881 I see:-

Peter and Susan Jensen living at 128 a 129a, 128, Oxford Street, St Marylebone, Marylebone, London & Middlesex along with another 9 unrelated people.

Peter's place of birth is given as Yelland in Devon on the transcription, however the image says Denmark Yelland.  His birth year is given as 1846.

Did they have any children?
