Hhmm, I've just noticed that the burial record that you have states Peder/Peter was 71 when he died.  Doing the maths means that he was born in 1842.

The 1881 Peter states born in 1846, a difference of four years.  Have you located Peter in any earlier census records?  When was he supposed to have entered the UK?

Hmmm, I find myself slightly perplexed, do I actually have the right Peder Jensen here?

"Yelland" is Jylland, which is Danish for Jutland. The death record states Peder Jensen's birth place as Grenaa, which is in Jutland.

The Peder Jensen in this death record was, as Jamcat95 said a Skotöjsfabrikant, which according to my dictionary is a Boot and Shoemaker.

COXON, HALL, JACKSON, SHOTTON - Northumberland

......He was a Bootmaker by trade & gave his father's name as Jens Jensen a farmer.

I took a look in Grenå Parish and found this Peder Jensen with father Jens Mortensen born 18 Aug 1842.

Hi Girl Guide, Isabel H & Ian,

Many thanks for your replies, very much appreciated.

Girl Guide, you do indeed have the correct census entry, with Peter, Susan & a servant with them. I don't actually know whether they had any children or not, as I have never been able to find them between 1881 & his death in 1913. Neither have I located Peter in any earlier censuses or know as to when he entered the UK unfortunately.

Isabel H, many thanks for clarification of birth place & occupation, very much appreciated.

Ian, many thanks for the link to the birth record, very much appreciated.

My thanks again, for all assistance so far, its very much appreciated.

Kind regards

David

"Jensen Peter of Lyngby in Denmark died 7th October 1913"
The probate record is clearly the right one since you can identify the other people mentioned. The fact that it says "of Lyngby" suggests to me that Peder Jensen had moved back to live in Denmark, with or without his wife, presumably sometime between 1881-1891, since he doesn't seem to be still here in 1891.
Re my earlier post, the dictionary definition of Skotöjsfabrikant was actually Boot and shoe manufacturer which suggests a larger scale operation than just "maker".

There is another Lyngby near Grenaa, and I searched the birth records for that parish (Lyngby Sogn, Randers Amt) in case "of Lyngby" referred to his birthplace rather than his place of death.  However, I  didn't find any record of him there.

This is a Peder Jensen b 1842 Grenaa/Grenå, but he may not be the right one. He is a ropemaker's apprentice in 1860.
