George Thomas McKay (1933-2007)
« on: Wednesday 26 September 18 14:45 BST (UK) »
Hello guys! I am new to this so sorry if I've not done this properly. I am currently researching fathers side of the family and I am already stuck at my grandfather !!!  Cannot find anything about him on ancestry.com, not even a mention in a census! Wonder if anybody could help me over this hurdle.. his name was George Thomas McKay born in Glasgow in 1933 and died 2007. He married Elizabeth McInnes from Glasgow born 1938.
Thank you in advance 😊

GEORGE THOMAS MCKAY 1933 644/7 634 Possilpark

This is his birth Registration on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
You can order it on the site.

You are unlikely to find him on Ancestry or elsewhere.

The latest census online is 1911, once you have his certificate you may be able to trace his parents and beyond. On SP above you may be able to find his parents on the Valuation Rolls they go up to 1935.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

From the deaths on Scotland's People he died in New Patrick, not Glasgow. His mother's maiden name is Campbell. As indicated he is too young to have his birth/death image on Scotland's People.

You will have to order certificates from Scotland.

Hmmm. There are only three George Thomas McKays in the birhs index
- born 1904 in Glasgow Dennistoun
- born 1933 in Glasgow Possilpark
- born 1985 in Glasgow

and two deaths
- 2004 in Glenrothes, age 99, mother's surname Cormack
- 2007 in New Kilpatrick aged 73, mother's surname Campbell

and two marriages
- to Catherine Keith Campbell in Glasgow Blythswood in 1930
- to Elizabeth McInnes in Glasgow Milton in 1958

I wonder if the one born in 1904 is the one married in 1930 and father of the one born in 1933?

A copy of the 1958 marriage certificate would provide the answer to that question.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

It seems to me that the three George McKays are my great-grandfather, grandfather and my cousin. I know barely anything about my great-grandfather too so will have to look into that to be sure, sounds right though! Thank you so much for that.
