Death of Patrick McCullen - Rasharkin/Carnfinton
« on: Wednesday 26 September 18 17:31 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Can anyone help me find the death of my 4x Great Grandfather Patrick McCullen please who died between 1851 and 1871 in Co. Antrim, in the Rasharkin area. He is in the 1851 Ireland census -

Patrick McKillian, 40 (Blacksmith)
Jane McKillian, 30 (Wife - Maiden name Gribben, Married 01/08/1848 in Rasharkin)
Ezekiel McKillian, 2
Rosey McKillian, 50 (Sister - not married)
Jane McKillian, 48 (Sister - not married)
Mary McKillian, 16 (Sister - Linen Weaver)
Patrick McKillian, 82 (Father - d. Winter of '48 gen. debility/age, Blacksmith)

In 1871 Patrick's wife Jane McCullen (Gribben) is living in Glasgow, with daughters Margaret (16), and Ellen (13), and she is the head of the family. Jane dies in 1879.

The name varies from McKillen/McKillian in Ireland, and McCullen in Scotland.

Thanks!

Have you already checked for a death in Scotland?

The family are living in Carnfinton in 1851-

The Poor Law Union/Registration District is Ballymoney.

I was through Carnfinton early this morning  ;)

I did look for deaths in Scotland for Patrick but couldn't find one. He is listed as both Patrick & James on some records, but the majority lists him as Patrick.

Aye I did find that 1851 census for him, but apart from that I can find nothing on the McKillen's/McCullen's/McKillian's in Ireland. I don't know if the records are available in Ireland at this time, there seems to be a lack of records, parish and census returns.  ???

On Margaret's marriage record to Charles McCormick in 1875, she lists her father as Patrick. Yet on Margaret's death record in 1900, her daughter Ellen lists him as Patrick McCullen.

Wonder why Margaret would have put James McCullen.
