Which Sister is Which? The two sisters are Ethel and Eva
« on: Thursday 27 September 18 07:16 BST (UK) »
Hello.

The two sisters are Ethel and Eva and I'm not sure who is who in the first photo.

The other photos are of Ethel aged 26, Ethel aged 40 and Eva aged 18 (looking at baby).

Ethel was five years older than Eva. Eva died after giving birth aged 24.

Thanks in advance.

In the top photo I would say it is Ethel standing up and Eva in the front.

Oh I was going to say the other way round!  Ethel, with her large & slightly sloping eyes, seated :)

Eva is at the back. It was usual for older members to be seated in group photos also the locket & throat brooch appear to be the same in 1 & 4.

That would be my suggestion too.

I was just taking a  look at the jewellery too.

The one at the back has the same throat brooch as picture 1. Picture 1 is Ethel.
But the other lady seems to have a matching brooch worn lower down.

The lockets appear to be similar except one darker than the other - that could just be the way he light is on them, but if not, then they would suggest that the one standing is indeed Eva (as everyone else seems to say!!!!)

They are so very similar and my immediate reaction was the same as Liz's - i.e. Ethel standing.

Also, they both have similar necklaces.   It would help if the first photo was larger as it pixelates rapidly on zooming.

Too similar to say at the moment.

Addded - something about the hair and hairline that made me think as I did.

Yes, I agree.

Ethel certainly has frizzier hair , worn short in both the other photos.

Eva in the bottom photo has softer longer hair, and that goes with the front girl in the top one who has her hair up.  As the top one was probably taken a little later, Eva would have been a little older and thus started putting her hair up.  Showing the squarer hairline that is also apparent in the bottom photo.

Hair length or style would normally not be a sensible strategy to use, as it can change so easily and frequently , but there does possibly seem to be a pattern here?

First reaction to seeing the photos is Ethel standing up.  She has light eyes in the bigger photo but can't clearly see the eyes on the other lady, if she had darker eyes that might clinch it.
