Okay I need to check if Annie was a widow when she married Robert. Its looking like a reasonable option but only this marriage will confirm or deny it. All conjecture till then, but the following is looking quite possible.

and now I have confirmation that the marriage register entry has the groom's name (including the full middle name) as a match for Robert Ridley Greener. The bride was Annie Hardy, a widow, and her father was Patrick Blaylock, so all the boxes are now ticked :-)
