Just info in case someone else wastes time because the index is mixed up :-)
I found a death notice, billed as searching in the database for the edition of
9th May 1978.
Page 2, column 3
JOHNSON (late of Dunston) in hospital on
May 10OH! that seems a bit premature! Okay she was obviously very ill, but making all the funeral arrangements the day 'before' she actually died seems not a little strange! (and impossible as you have to have the medical certificate of death and register the death before the funeral director can make the arrangements).
I've faffed about, looking a year or two ahead on the off chance there was an In Memoriam notice that may give me the right date of death, Nope.
It can't be right, I must have dreamt it, okay! back to May 9th 1978, yep it does say she died on 10th. THEN my brain kicked into gear and I checked the date at the top of the newspaper page -
MAY 11thI'll remember to do that in future if there is a discrepancy, but that's 20 mins of my life I am not going to get back :-) At my age that 20 mins is a lot to lose !
