Australian WWII Service Record
« on: Friday 28 September 18 03:29 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I'm currently researching a relative of a friend. He served in WWI and WWII, however I am having difficulty with his WWII service file. In the respect of deciphering what unit he was with, responsibilities etc as he served with Training Depot, HQ and Bases.

I have created a timeline in excel from his service record, can anyone (or does anyone know where) help me sort the information and put it into context to understand what he is actually doing etc.

His file is online at NAA
Cheers

A name and service number would probably help.

There is a list of military terminology and acronyms here:

Thanks Debra,

I'm aware of the glossary on the AWM site, and have used this already to establish abbreviations. The problem I'm having is there is conflicting information in his service record, potential crossed out lines etc. his name was Frank Leslie Krinks.

Cheers

Hi Craig,

Thanks for that, Yes we purchased that file a few months ago which is why it is online. It is from this file that I'm looking for assistance with the "Higher level' details.

Had a look at the record and an instance of crossed out lines appears when service from the regular army ends and he then becomes a reservist with a new regt number ...often officers had honorary positions after full time service...for example may exit a major then become a reserve lt colonel ...any help? thanks Craig
