Makes sense to me.

The 475th (1/2nd South Midland) Field Company), Royal Engineers were part of the 48th (South Midland) Division https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/48th_(South_Midland)_Division

Christine is absolutely right.  Later became 475 Field Company (as Philip says).

Died of a gun shot wound to the head in 1/2 South Midland Field Ambulance on 20 August 1916.  In the days before 20 August his company had been called in to act as infantrymen in support of 143 Brigade.  The war diary does not record his wounding but it seems likely it would have been during those operations.
