Alfred Gibson b 1907
« on: Saturday 29 September 18 13:42 BST (UK) »
The above was the son of William Albert Gibson, a miner, according to his marriage certificate when he married Jane Ellen Lees 15 Sep 1929 at St Mary, Lambeth. His occupation was recorded as Private 1st Battalion Scots Guards. I guess this means that he was a professional soldier and wonder if he was born in Scotland or at least the north of England?
After their marriage I can find no more records for them, other than the birth of a son in 1930 at Lambeth.

In all likelihood.  He was too young for the Great War and there was no conscription in the 20s.  Birth place is less certain.  There was no embargo on Englishmen from wherever joining Scottish regiments.

He may well have gone on to serve in the Second War, 32 when it began and even if he had finished his pre-war engagement he would have been called back.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Have checked Anc and FindMyPast for war/military records but without success, maybe they went abroad?

Post 1920 records are not on line. You have to apply (and pay) for them from MOD
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records

But you need to have a death certificate, date of birth (or service number) and consent of next of kin which looks uncertain in this case?

As I understand things, consent of Next of Kin is only required if the person has died within the last 25 years?

In which case, certain information is limited to NOK only.

I have applied for a few Service Records and I have never needed NOK consent ;D

The perils of summarising the rules!   I shall confine myself in future to linking to the web site only so as not to fall into the same trap again.

MaxD - don't beat yourself over it! ;D
I usually bow to your superior knowledge ;)
I only knew because I had applied for a number of records.

MOD rules are never easy to follow, or understand, as I'm sure you know.

Have you ruled out Alfred Howell Gibson ? FindMyPast has this in Service Records :

2692355
Alfred Howell Gibson
b 1905
birthplace  Middlesbrough Yorkshire
attested `1927
occupation miner
regiment Scots Guards

Here's a link to the free information for the 1911census on familysearch for his family in Crook and Billy Row , Durham

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWHL-PH7

If you look for Alfred's   son born in 1930  on the 1939 register he seems to be on the free index in Crook and Willington UD , Durham with John W Gibson and 3 others . A look at the full record is helpful in linking the family. I think the son may have died but I can't be sure , so will not name.

I realise that this Alfred's father is John William , not William Albert , and the birth year for Alfred Howell Gibson is a couple of years out but I think this is worth looking at.
