I have seen the details that are on the 1939 Register available on FindMyPast (?). Ramsay is not mentioned.
I have a feeling that he may have been staying with his mothers brother Sidney but have no evidence. Ramsay, b. 1925,was at school in Crook in 1936/7 and is said to have left at about that time.

Thanks Debra. Is there any way to open the record and get more info?
My filing is abysmal, not that I have any easy access to the records that I have made over the years, but I seem to remember that Elias and a James Marsh were at Bower Way in 1939 perhaps Lily also

From my notes
,is not currently known where Ramsey was just prior to WW2. He is not listed as being at Bower Way.
What is now known is that Ramsay had a younger brother called John Antony Marsh who was killed at the age of four because of him being struck by a car near Salt Hill Park, Slough while with a friend, George Thompson, 7, of 110 Bower Way on Sunday 5th May 1940.
Report

It seems that that Ramsay May have been working as a lorry driver as a young man. Location unknown. Possibly in County Durham for his uncle Sidney Brown who was his mother's' younger brother. This idea is substantiated by his RAF record which notes previous profession as lorry driver, and, also by a lady who Ramsay presumably had designs upon at the time he met her and is now a widow living in the US.

If you subscribe to Find My Past you can send them proof that he has died i.e. his death certificate (they accept a scan) and they will open it for free. "We offer a free service to Findmypast subscribers who request that an officially closed record be opened through our online Evidence of Death form. "

If you don't belong to FindMyPast you need to apply to the National Archives

"We charge a non-refundable fee of £23.35 for a search. This fee covers the search and administration costs.

You need proof that the person is no longer living in order to submit your request to us. We can only accept a copy of an official death certificate (issued by the General Register Office or overseas equivalent) so please ensure you have this documentation before proceeding."

So if it isn't him you don't get you money back!

All that you will get from the 1939 entry is his date of birth and for that it would be easier to just purchase the birth certificate.

Ramsay, b. 1925

His birth was registered in 1924, not 1925.

Birth
March quarter 1924
MARSH, Ramsay
Mother's maiden surname: BROWN
Auckland
Volume: 10a
Page: 482

He would not have been eligible to vote until he turned 21 in 1945.

Thanks for that. My mistake.
According to Ramsay’s RAF Record he was born in December 1923.

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

That is the logical answer.

I wonder what the consequences of not registering a birth were?

You could be fined, however, in this case he was registered. I believe I saw in a tree he was born 31st December 1923, therefore his registration would have fallen into the next quarter and next year.
