Could some kind Roots Chat collague please have any info by way of cenus etc on Thomas Mc Award born Glasgow (circa) 1840. Father also Thomas

Have you looked for a baptism on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Did he marry in Scotland?  If so downloading a copy of his marriage cert will give his parents names and mothers maiden name

A tree on Ancestry shows his birthdate as 1845 Lanarkshire and parents Margaret Colhoun and Thomas McAward

Married Catherine Ward Clifford

Shows he died 1903 Londonderry and is on the 1901 Irish census

McAward is a Donegal/Derry name usually. Can't see death or 1901 census for Thomas but spelling of surname might be the problem.

Tree shows 1901 address as Killea Donegal

Looking at some of the entries on the tree it looks as though the McA was dropped by some of Thomas's children as they are shown as aka Ward

It also shows a WW1 medal roll index entry for Thomas - whilst also showing he died in 1903

Several discrepancies on the Ancestry tree.  They have his daughter Catherine born in Donegal 1879 but baptised as Ward in Stepney London in 1884??

She was born in Ballymagroarty in County Londonderry according to birth registration-
