New Street (Now New Row) Covent Garden
« on: Monday 01 October 18 22:11 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I believe one of my ancestors James Julian Browne had the newsagents at 5 New Street (now New Row) in Covent Garden, Westminster, from around 1905 - 1915.

Does anyone know if any pictures exist of New Street around that time, or where further information could be found on his newsagents please?

Thank you.

Sorry I can't offer you a picture, but there is a nice map here:

If you can locate them on the 1911 census you may be able to narrow down the exact location through looking at the neighbouring residences and trying to estimate where No 5 was (perhaps by working your way down from the pub on the corner - currently 'The Round House').

You can see 5 New Row marked on this 1952  map https://maps.nls.uk/view/102903895#zoom=4&lat=5063&lon=1928&layers=BT

You could also try contacting Westminster Archives. They have a huge bank of old photographs, many of which are not online.
