My DNA success story
« on: Wednesday 03 October 18 20:00 BST (UK) »
Another smashed brick wall for me thanks to an extremely high DNA match. I found a lost great aunt Sarah Dunbar born 1858 in Birkenhead, who vanished after the 1871 census.  I discovered she had emigrated to the States and married an Irish man there and had 3 children, my 2nd cousin in the states also had a picture of her on his tree. What's more, her sisters daughter, Sarah Agnew joined her later on and can be found on one of the US censuses.
And today, I heard from another high DNA match that my dad's great aunt moved from Caithness to Liverpool in 1911, almost 50 years before my own father moved there from Caithness, practically about 10 mins from where I grew up. Therefore my dad lived in Liverpool for over 50 years and never knew he had close relatives nearby.

Cousins AND a photo - wow!  It's always good to hear about successes.

Another "wow" from me too Rosezi, you must be buzzing - also extraordinary is the coincidence of the move to Liverpool.

So pleased for you Rosezi.

I bit the bullet and did an Ancestry DNA test a few weeks ago... I'm hoping for either a brickwall breakthrough with my Paternal Grandfather, - or at least a few new pointers!

Romilly.

Autosomal DNA testing as we all know has it's limitations, but when it is successful, it certainly gives you a buzz.

My dau in law had 2 unknown grandfathers. Both her parents were born to single mothers who took the secret to their graves.
She now knows who they were and has made contact with both the families. Thank you DNA.
