Census Abbreviation
« on: Thursday 04 October 18 13:41 BST (UK) »
I have a listing on 1901 Census for a son who is listed as a 'Coachman Not Do.' Does anybody know what this means please? I thought maybe it meant he was not living at home?

Any thoughts welcome, thank you.

Thank you Rosie, would you know what this actually means? Would it mean he was not living at home?

It means he was employed not as a domestic coachman, but in some other context - e.g. commercial.

Ah! Thank you very much. His Father was listed as a Car Proprietor which was rather out of the norm for the whole family!!

Car possibly short for carriage, in that context?
