Scotmum, that possible birth you have in Dalziel could fit as Stephen shows a birth place of Wishaw in 1901.

There's an 1874 marriage in Old Monkland district that's a possibility (Cane rather than Kane).

That is a better fit.

Flip, where did the 1890 marriage date come from?

In 1871, there is an 18yr old James Farrell lodging at the Dowine household in Old Monkland. He shows as an iron puddler by trade.

Assuming that Flipside has Mary's birth certificate, that is where the date and place of her parents' marriage must have come from. If Flip doesn't have that birth certificate, the next step is to get a copy.

If James was 36 in 1901, he wasn't old enough to marry in 1874.

Ah, but then he was 36 in 1891, not 1901.

Yes, realised that and have corrected previous post. 19 and 16 is still very young to marry, but not impossible.

There is also an entry in the 1901 census for an Annie C Farrell, aged 38 and born Ireland. She shows as a patient at Lockhart Hospital in Lanark.
