Occupation Marriage Bond
« on: Tuesday 09 October 18 10:54 BST (UK) »
I'd be glad of opinions on the occupation of Galfridus Asher on the attached marriage bond.

It looks like "collier", but I'm not sure if there were coal mines in the Hartshorne area.

The word in question looks like 'celibem/celibum' to me, which I think would simply translate as 'unmarried' or single.

The word 'solitam' appears after the bride's name, this also, I think, would translate as single.

I will wait for the experts to appear, to confirm or shoot me down in flames  ;D

I agree with JenB. No occupation is stated.

Lich: 17 decemb(ris) 1697
Fiat Lic(encia) m(at)r(im)onialis inter Galfridum Asher de Hartshorn Celibem
aetatis 40 fere annorum et Elinoram Mousley de Burton su(per)
Trent solutam aetatis 21 annoru(m)
Ministro de Hartshorn
ob Hen(ri)cus Mousley Pater feminae Jurat(us) coram me
W. Walmisley Sur(rogatus)

Lichfield, 17 December 1697
Let there be a marriage licence for the Minister of Hartshorne to marry Geoffrey Asher of Hartshorne, bachelor, aged just 40 years, and Eleanor Mousley of Burton upon Trent, single, aged 21 years; on account of Henry Mousley, the woman’s father, being sworn before me
W. Walmisley, Surrogate
