Bryce Henry and Eliza Ewing of Dunsilly
« on: Tuesday 09 October 18 23:50 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have another post on the Co Down forum on the Henry family of Shanrod Co Down with a question about a connected Holmes family.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=771865.0

The latest posts have returned to the family of my 3x gt grandparents Bryce Henry and Eliza Ewing of Dunsilly Antrim so I am reposting some of the information here. Mostly the information relates to the Ewing family of Coolsythe.

My Ewing family research started with the Will of Eliza Henry nee Ewing who died 14 April 1901. Later in 1999 I visited Ireland for the first time and copied this information from a tombstone in Drummaul burial ground.

Erected by Robert Ewing of Belfast in memory of his parents:
      John EWING    died 29 Aug 1852    aged 64   b 1788
      Mary EWING   died 1 Sep 1845   aged 47   b 1798
Also       William John EWING   died 2 Mar 1919
His wife   Sarah            died 11 Jan 1903   aged 71
Their dau   Maggie EWING      died 10 Nov 1903   aged 45
Son   John EWING         died in infancy
Sarah EWING      died 8 Dec 1909
Annie EWING      died 19 Jul 1915
Aggie EWING      died 28 Sep 1919
Mary EWING      died 23 Jan 1925

Eventually that lead to my construction of this family for John Ewing and his wife Molly McKelvy, the two named first on the above tombstone. Jane Ewing has an * as I have not yet found any evidence of her apart from on an Ancestry tree which has no further details. I have placed her in the earlier family on the assumption that she may have married pre 1845.

Eliza EWING      b 1820      m c1840   married Bryce HENRY      d 1901
Margaret (Peggy)   b 1821      m <1845   married Richard FAULKNER   d 1906
Jane EWING *                  married SHAW
Agnes (Nancy)      b 1826      m 1847   married William John McAULEY   d 1896
Mary EWING      b 1831      m 1851   married Robert AGNEW      d 1919
Sarah EWING       b 1832     m 1853   married Robert HUGHES      d 1898
William John EWING   b 1835      m 1854   married Sarah HILL         d 1919
James EWING      b 1838      m 1860   married Margaret RESIDE      d1915
Anna EWING      b 1843      m1866      married William CRAIG      d 1925
Robert EWING      b 1845      m 1869   married Annie Maxwell Campbell d 1920

Cheers

Linda

My 2x gt grandparents Mary Jane Henry and William Gawn married at Randalstown 2nd Presbyterian Church on 4th Jun 1869.

One of the witnesses was Jane Faulkner. This is Jane's family. Jane emigrated to the USA after the birth of her first child James in 1873.

Does anyone know why the Drummaul burial ground just off Coolsythe rd has an Estee Lauder symbol on top of it in Google maps?

The burial ground does look like it has been tidied up since I visited in 1999 and is a little more accessible looking. I did not manage to venture far into it as it was getting dark by the time we found it. Luckily the Ewing and McAuley tombstones were quite close to the entrance gate.

Cheers

Hi Linda

Margaret/Peggy Faulkner nee Ewing is my direct ancestor.  From a Faulkner family bible we believe her exact birth date is 3 Oct 1819.  This would make her the eldest of John and Mary's children, a year (?) older than Eliza.

For the Coolsythe Road graveyard I have transcriptions of three graves (probably from around 1996/7).  They are all for Hendersons as my Henderon ancestors married into the Faulkner line and I didn't know about the Ewing link at the time.  I am also related to the McAuleys through marriage as well as the shared Ewing ancestors, though somewhat distantly.

If anyone is interested in the transcriptions and profiles

Hi Linda - I have fully sourced research on the Faulkner family, so if you want exact birth dates for the offspring of Richard Faulkner and Peggy Ewing they can be found on WikiTree.  I also have marriage dates, again backed up with official sources.
Start with Richard's page and view descendants.

For top level information
Jane (Faulkner) Hill d about 1939
Mary (Faulkner) Weir died 7 Sep 1908
Robert Hogg Faulkner born 18 Nov 1856 died 9 May 1948
You are missing James Faulkner (b1845, d 1867) and Agnes Faulkner (b 1861, d 1881), neither of whom married.

If you click on it you'll see the stockist listed as "Unit 10-12, Gordons Chemist Antrim, Castle Centre, Coolsythe Rd, Randalstown, Antrim BT41 3DN"  :o  Not sure how they've managed to jumbl upthe actual address ::)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks Aghadowey.

I wondered if the chemist or Estee Lauder had sponsored some sort of maintenance work on the cemetery.  I did look for some shops nearby just in case the symbol was only slightly out of place.
