Scanning problem, lap top with W10, Epson XP-445 printer/scanner
« on: Wednesday 10 October 18 15:00 BST (UK) »
First I apologise for making frequent use of this section of the forum, but it is where I get most practical advice.

Today's problem is that using Paint for my picture handling on the laptop with Win10, I could click the icon, go the 'File' and see a range of options.  The 6th option from the top is 'From Scanner or Camera', which used to be live when the printer was switched on.  Now it always seems to be grey and inactive.
I have tried the scanner control for 'scan to computer', and the machine runs, but nothing appears on screen.
The printer is Epson XP-445, wireless and close to the laptop.

All guidance welcome.  Thanks
Ainslie

Hi Ainslie
Since the problem started ( or coincidental with the problem starting ). . . . . .
Have you added any new w/less equipmant? eg new fone? new tv box?
House visitor added their fone?
Have you used the permanent ip allocations on your router?
Do you have many w/less pieces of kit?

Reason I ask is that my immediate thought is that the local ip adresses have changed somehow.

Thanks, Ray, for prompt reaction.
The answer is no to all, except ip allocations, which I do not know anything about.

I'll see if there is a simple write-up around.

Does it work the other way around?ie initiate scan on the computer to "drag the scan from the scanner"?

Working from the computer end via Paint does not work.  I will try the later suggestion - I am having a break and am on the iPad.
Will report back.

Back now.  I tried the Windows/...scanner but it told me to connect a scanner!  I shall have to wait for techy son to visit and sort it, in case he has tweaked something I know nothing about and that is plenty.
Thanks again.

The first step with these things is to switch everything off - computer and scanner, and then restart.

So you have a problem and you don't know what it is!

Then Troubleshoot it!

Just search    Troubleshoot   and then Printer/Scanner  or Scanner        if that shows
