Any ideas appreciated. I think it may be M V Frith, but I wanted some more opinions :)

Thank you.   There is a death of a Mary V Frith after that marriage in the right area but I am not convinced that is what it says.

I think the first letter of the surname is possibly an L  - Lict...  :-\

I'm pretty sure the second letter is 'r', then 'e' or 'i', followed by 't'.

The first letter is consistent with some styles of 'F', and the last one could be 'h' with a severely shortened stem.

So Frith could well be correct - I can't at the moment think of anything more likely.

Could you maybe copy some more of the text of the certificate (for comparison of letters and writing style) including the names of those married (which we might be able to cross check with a transcribed record)? Thanks?

So that might suggest that mum signed as a witness.

Mary and Alfred are in Maldon in 1939.
