Alexander George Cross , Lancashire
« on: Friday 12 October 18 15:43 BST (UK) »
Hi , I'm looking for any help or info on Alexander George Cross, I believe he was born Jan, Feb, mar 1866 in Liverpool , West Derby. I have found him in the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census living with his parents , I think I've found him in the 1901 census as a boarder in Whalley, Clitheroe, but from there he has just disappeared, can't find a death record or anything. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks Karen

I think you mean 1891 in Whalley , boarding with Thomas and Sarah Parker ? In 1901 he is back with his family , transcribed Croes , in Seaforth. Still looking for later records.

There's an Alex G Cross , 35, a clerk , sailing from Liverpool  to Cape Town , on the SS Medic 19 Dec 1901. The ships' ultimate destination was Sydney but he was among those going to Cape Town.

Oh dear , he didn't survive for very long. There is a probate record indicating that he died in 1913 in Kimberley. It says he was about 46 , father John Cross , and born in Liverpool so it sounds like the right one . Here's a link to the file :

2nd page confirms Railway Clerk and mother Mary.

Yes , your much quicker than me lol, I've just had a look at the link, that certainly does look like it's him, maybe he stayed in Cape Town instead of going to Australia , thank you so much for your research x

Hi Christine, could I trouble you for more help with another Cross in my tree, his name is John Alfred Ernest Cross, born 1892 in Omagh Ireland, he is in the 1901 census as the cousin of the head of household, William A Cross & Sarah A Cross , but I have found his birth record which names William & Sarah as the parents , he is on the 1911 as grandson, but after that nothing. Thanks Karen
