Arthur Blakemore of Nantwich
« on: Monday 15 October 18 08:15 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am struggling to find this gentleman and would appreciate some help.

Arthur was born 19 April 1866 in Nantwich - father was John Blakemore. I can see the family on 1871 census (surname shown as Blake); 1881 census (surname Blakemore in Nantwich); and 1891 (surname Blakemore as a boarder in the Crewe area) but after that date no other trace of him except in UK Railway Employment Records until the same 1891 time period.

He then seems to disappear, as I can't see a death, marriage nor any other records - it seems strange and I am at a complete loss.

Any ideas where he may have gone?

Many thanks

Alan

Have you already discounted the 1908 marriage in Birkenhead?

You mention UK railway employment records but his occ in 1891 was iron moulders labourer?

Hi Carole,

Thanks for your reply

Yes, I discounted the Birkenhead marriage - firstly familysearch.org had him aged 29 at the  marriage in 1908, and the later census showed him born in Shrewsbury not Nantwich.

I noticed the iron moulders reference in 1891 but didn't think this discounted him from being involved in railway labouring. Several of the UK railway records show Arthur Blakemore born at the right time - I can't tie these date in to any other Arthur Blakemore. Living in the Crewe area, it is very likely he could have been involved in the railways.

It might not be "my" Arthur in these specific records but to me it seems quite likely to be him. I can't find an earlier death that would allow me to discount this being him. Its just very frustrating!

Hi Carole,

This was one of my thoughts but I cannot find any emigration records.

Arthur had a brother David who died in Liverpool in 1903 - one of his children James Arthur Blakemore (1903-1985) married in Quebec, Canada in 1940 and died in Lachine, Quebec in 1985.

From familysearch, I did find a death of an Arthur Blakemore 18 April 1941 in Bella Coola, British Columbia, Canada but it says his birth date in England was 22 March 1868 (datewise it doesn't quite fit) -evidently he was single age 73 but it is the nearest i can find - so far!

Free BMD doesn't have an Arthur Blakemore's birth registered in Mar/June quarter 1868, so I was wondering if perhaps it could have been 1866?
