The Old Low Light Heritage Centre on the fish 🐟 quay at North Shields are currently holding an exhibition about the RNLI's 1914 rescue of the hospital shop Rohilla.

In 1914 this ship was on her way to France to pick up the wounded but became wrecked at Whitby due the gales and the war time black out.  There were 200 in board.  The people at Whitby did their utmost to save these people but due to ferocious weather were unable to complete the rescue.

Tynemouth' s motor life boat sailed the 40 miles and was able to rescue the last 50 men.

The curator of this exhibition whose own ancestors played a part in this rescue is asking if anyone is able to add anything to the display with further information or memorabilia.
