Thank you, Maiden Stone. Is it possible to see who is buried in St Quivox churchyard anywhere? It looks like that is the best bet. Thank you for your time, Islay.

Scotland Churches Trust website calls Dalmilling Church "Ayr St. Quivox Church (Dalmilling)"
https://scotlandschurchestrust.org.uk/ayr-st-quivox-church-dalmilling

Another theory I had is that that the pall-bearers met the hearse outside entrance to Auchincruive grounds then carried the coffin from the main road to St. Quivox Church.

Edit. The link doesn't work. Search for Ayr St. Quivox church Dalmilling Scotland's Churches Trust finds it or go to Scotland's Churches Trust site and search for the church by name.

St. Quivox & Newton Parish - St. Quivox  Churchyard monumental inscriptions  (Troon & District Family History Society)

There are copies in stock of South Ayrshire Libraries.

Publication dates of the library copies are 1994 and 2003. I don't know if they are reprints or  different editions.
