Death details
« on: Tuesday 16 October 18 02:34 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I have been looking for a death or burial for a rellie David WILLIAMSON in between 1835-1840 in or about Dundee. I found a few fellows of that name and between those dates, but in the records I've found there is no way to prove he is the correct David. There is no mention of any family in the ones I have found.  Are they all like this?
Even the newspaper records of their death they do not mention family unless he is some person of importance they will say that he is the son of ?

How do you prove you have the right family in Dundee ?

Cheers
Geoff

Where did the records come from? Have you tried the transcriptions of burials in the Howff at https://www.fdca.org.uk/The_Howff.html ?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Have you checked the records on Scotland's People.

For example.
DAVID WILLIAMSON, age 35 Dundee record dated 30/05/1835

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Hi Geoff unfortunately before 1855 when official registration of Births/marriages/deaths came into being in Scotland the records can be very sparse.

The usually contain very little information on the person. I have found some which only give a name, date and say old man/old woman died.

It is therefore very difficult to prove exactly.

Geoff, have you checked the Howff Cemetery burial registers?

The David Williamson death that Colin mentions shows as

Williamson David 2.6.1835 35 yr
Supposed Inverarity (birth place)
Labourer
Decline

Hello toMonica, Dorrie, Colin and Fortarian,
In answer to Forfarian, I have his birth and marriage records, then they had 3 children by 1835, but when I looked up the 41, 51 census they both had Isabella as a widow, as did the next two census records.
I have searched what cemeteries I could find, the Howff was one of them but I intend to do them all again.
I like the one in 30th May 1835 he was buried 2nd June, It says he died of DECLINE. How is that possible at 30 years of age ?
The burial register says he died in the inner city and he is buried at a cemetery not in a common grave.
It actually gives some numbers that I'm going to send to Dundee council, they should be able to tell me where they are from.
I will also use them when I do the cemeteries again.
There is also another at Barry cemetery in 1839, but being about 10 -12 miles away puts me off a little.
Thanks to you all for your input, I'm very grateful.
Regards
Geoff

Cancer of some sort, perhaps, that they didn't have the skills to diagnose more precisely?
