Sir William Dickson. 1898-1987
« on: Thursday 18 October 18 16:13 BST (UK) »
To mark the centenary of the end of the First World War our local history group are remembering Sir William Dickson, who was born in Northwood Middlesex in 1898 and died in 1987. He was a Royal Naval Air Service aviator.
An RAF personnel estate in our area which was built in the 1950s named their roads after several WW1 pilots;  Tedder, Slessor, Salmond and Dickson. When the RAF left and the site was redeveloped Dickson Road ceased to exist while the other three remained. On Friday October 26th the park is to be renamed Dickson Park in his memory.  This renaming will be carried out by the Lord Mayor of York and representatives of the RAF.
If there are any relatives of Sir William Dickson who would like to attend please send me a personal message and I will give you details.
We have information about his life from Internet sites but any extra information or photos from Rootschatters researching his family would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.
