Quote
so, they had two daughters named ELIZA and ELIZABETH

Not unusual, I've seen that quite a few times with my ancestors.  I guess to them it was a totally different name.

Hi all,

Many thanks for all your imput.
The consesus seems to suggest it was one family with two Elizabeths.

The Eliza born about 1835 who married Joseph Vieyra was still going in 1881 living in Bermondsey whereas
the other Elizabeth  (bapt 1847) is the w/o Walter Belcher and I believe she died in 1908.

What is still a puzzle is the wide variation in occupations.

I think engineer and stoker were fairly interchangeable back then. It’s the watchmaker that I think is slightly out field but perhaps that was his first trade and he went back to it from time to time.

BTW you’ve got your Eliza and Elizabeth round the wrong way 😀

Hi,
Eliza and Elizabeth round the wrong way

So I did!! Its confusing all the same.

What about the occupation of engine driver?  A stoker on a census seems to tie in.

Hi Jamjar,

Many thanks for those records - I did have most of them.

Caroline Ethel Belcher went on to marry a Maurice Alexander in 1913 West Ham, Essex
