WW1 Service Record - James Brady #27775 1st Inniskilling Fusiliers
« on: Friday 19 October 18 10:48 BST (UK) »
Hi there... see attachment of James Brady’s WW1 army will, stating his regiment and number.
Can anybody help me find his service record please, as I’m struggling!

Thanks for your help.

Perhaps his was one of the almost two thirds of WW1 service records that were destroyed in WW2.  You have to be reasonably lucky to find a surviving record.

This page does return James Brady of the matching service number.....there is a £65 fee for the service offered (nb you would need to ask what this is likely to include):

I have received helpful info from the museum in the past regarding a soldier I was researching, albeit in the days before they charged for the service.

As Debra says, his record would seem to be among those that did not survive, it is certainly not to be found.

However, there is a medal record for him on line, his entry in the Register of Solders' Effects is to be found and his Commonwealth War Graves Commission entry is:
https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/243380/brady,-/

The Effects register tells us he died of wounds in No 21 Casualty Clearing Station (at the time in the town of Ytres (not Ypres)).  The war diary of his battalion will tell you what they were doing at the time.

Do take the advice of scotmum if you contact the museum, it is unlikely that they have any more direct info for him.
