« on: Friday 19 October 18 17:20 BST (UK) »
I an quite stuck with the name of a gentleman who is booking a passage to Canada leaving on an unspecified ship at the end of March 1904. He was living, at that date, at 206, Rodbourne Road, Swindon. Be pleasd if anyone can help. Toby.

A first pass - it may be 'Trinder'  :-\ though middle letter looks more like 'f'; need to look at 1901 census.

Yes. I agree this is a possibility. Unfortunately some-one quite different was in that house in the 1901 census. T

Have you got a reference for the list so that we can have a look to compare letters in the handwriting?

Nothing much I can do today as it is now too dark outside for me to photograph some other pages. I tried the flash but the result is a completely white page. There are three hands in this book and most of the entries are in ink. This particular entry is in pencil. T

The historical directories don’t help. The following 1903 Wiltshire directory has a
H. Stratford, hairdresser at that address(he is still in Swindon in 1911 at another
Address)

Continuing with the Tranter name. The North Wilts Directory of 1908 reveals a little. At 164, Rodbourne road, Swindon there is a baker & confectioner  A.Tranter.  1891 and 1901 Censuses ought to help but do not. T
