Hi all I think the 1871 census for John Smith with a Jane Smith this looks like a possible marriage
19 November 1870 Cruden Aberdeenshire John Smith spouse Jane Alexander might be worth checking
They are in Peterhead in the 1871 census
John Smith age 37 born about 1834 Peterhead occupation quarrier
Jane Smith age 22 born about 1849 Peterhead wife
Isabella Winton age 39 lodger born Alvah Banff

1881 family in Coldwells Cruden Aberdeenshire
John 47 Jane 34 this time birth place is Cruden
Charles 9,John 7,Alexander 4

Thanks , this is sad as I have just found the other 2 sons Alexander and John died 1903 and 1902 respectively

I wonder if we can pull
Up the 1891 and 1901 census for this family , which might show anymore sons or daughters

Also I cannot find a birth for the mother Jane Alexander born around 1847 ???
I can however see a death in 1922

Can anyone help further on the cenus or the birth of Jane

What I’m doing is trying to trace the smith line from
All
Angles it’s so sad as there looks to be very little if any smiths still around from
This line

Ryan

Thanks it’s fascinating to see where all ancestors are based

I agree looks very like it was not registered

Notice on john smiths death at Stirling hill in 1895  his witness is son John , it does mention married to Jane Alexander

Then 1922 at time
Of death she is at north haven ?

Did she move back to where her family were ? Or were they perhaps separated ?

Still trying to see any clues on 1891 and 1901 cenus

Ryan

The family are not easy to find on the later census's this could be a possible for Alexander
1891 census Uppermill farm Cruden Aberdeenshire

Alexr Smith age 14 Farm servant ..

It's most likely Jane Alexander/Smith moved back with family when her husband died

Thanks very much seems we have achieved a lot, I think it would
Be hard to find anymore as seems the boys probably had left to work and with father John dying 1895

Sad looks like all boys had died in 20s

I appreciate everyone’s help

1901 cenus - See a record for a John among born 1874 linden Aberdeenshire
Aged 27
Seen in Dennistoun Aberdeenshire

Lanarkshire

103 earlston Avenue

Granite cutter ( this is seen on his death cert also )

Along with Jane smith age 54
Born 1847 Aberdeenshire

Same address as above

Furthermore

A Maggie j smith born 1886
Daughter of Jane

( dress maker )

Seems a lot of coincidences

Date of birth of both Jane and John

And occupation of John

Something to think about ???
