School in Westwell
« on: Monday 22 October 18 16:02 BST (UK) »
Hi
Just wondering if anybody has in their possession a picture of the school in Westwell - I know my Grandmother was there in 1904, and I have been told that there is a school house there, but would love to see an old picture of the school just to visualise what it looked like and where it was.

Thanks
Gill

According to the censuses the "School House" was the residence of the teacher, the actual school would be the building behind. In 1911 the "School House" is shown as a Private House.

Thanks Kay and Stan, that's very useful.
Looking at that picture on google maps, it looks as though the school house and school are joined?

Thanks for that, nice to know what it looks like.

From Kelly's Directory of Kent, 1903. [Part 1: County & Localities] Westwell;
"National School (mixed), built in 1830, for 70 children; average attendance 43; Miss Alice Barton Martin, mistress."
