Family arrived in Canada but what next?
« on: Monday 22 October 18 17:37 BST (UK) »
Please can someone give me pointers as to where to start looking for further information.

I have a Elizabeth Waine born 1892 travelling from Liverpool to Quebec in June 1927on the Monreal  with her daughter Margaret born 1925  and son Colin Williams born 1926 (although on the list it says Margaret is 1 and Colin 6 months).
Her husband Alfred James Waine born 1894 went out before them in March 1927 on the Monreal from Liverpool to St John NB.
He gives the home address but his wife just has c.o. C.P.R Manchester.

Why did he go out first before his wife and the family?
Where did they settle?
He was a fitter in the UK so what work did he do in Canada?
Did they stay or did they come back to the UK?
Did they have more children out in Canada?
And did either of them die out there?

Canada Voters List 1968 - Colin Waine - (office manager) and Mrs Helen Waine (clerk) - MacIssac Drive Simcoe North Ontario.

Not sure how popular that name would be - but there is a Colin Waine showing  Canadian Phone and Address Directories, 1995-2002 - 195 Cedarlsland Rd -Orillia. (this would need verified)

Huge thanks for this.

Also I am wondering about the strange address for Elizabeth - c/o C.P.R Manchester - some sort of forwarding address? To me it looks like Central Pacific Railway ...

I am wondering if there were any more children born out in Canada - the two they had were born very quickly after they got married.

I am thinking that Margaret must have married so she would have a new surname

He was a skilled fitter who had done his apprenticeship so I wonder why he was just working as a salesman.

I've also looked at the map and  Orilla Simcoe seems to be a vast distance from their port of entry - Quebec is closer - maybe a long train journey.
I read that it was St John NB for winter and Quebec for summer

Orilla seems to have 2 cemeteries - possible burial places

I am wondering of Margaret married.

So Colin Waine and Helen Waine - maybe there are grandchildren and great grandchildren

Nottawasaga Street is residential and very nice but Memorial Avenue seems to be a restaurant now. All three addresses are within 5 minutes of each other
