When I made the comment regarding the name I was thinking of Viola as a flower along the lines of:
Rose Cottage
Primrose Cottage
Lilac Cottage
Ivy Cottage
etc ....  :)

Looks like Nola to me too.
I think the dot that Karen saw is just a speck on the paper like you often get with some printers.
Dawn M

The dot for the "i" in both Woodshires and Corporation is several letters to the right.
It is only in the right place in Foleshill.

I did wonder whether the mark was an apostrophe above Woodshires, but according to the maps I've looked at, it is written without one.

All of which tempts me back towards Viola...

Of course! Apologies, I was being particularly dense.
When I first looked at this I saw nothing but Nola. Now I’m beginning to see Viola  :-X

I did have a fairly good look a while ago, Josey (Reply #7).  FindMyPast has it as Woodshives Green!

Maybe some American or musical connection?  "Nola" was a jazz tune of the 1920s.

(N.O. La. - New Orleans, Louisiana.)
Ballingall, Donaldson, Fulton, Gillespie, Ramsay, Walker - in Fife.
Bury - in Salford & Liverpool.
Jack - in Glasgow, Dunfermline & Dundee.
Bermingham/Birmingham - in Cork.
Eagle - in Norfolk, Edinburgh & Glasgow.

I took a look at the 1911 enumerators books, but couldn't find anything resembling it.

It wold be most useful to know from the OP what date we are talking about  :-\

Something gives me the feeling that it it is not particularly old - the handwriting has a "careful" modern look to it. (I'm probably completely wrong, though!  :P) And a very slight slant to the left. (No comments about left-handers, please!  :) ;D)

Anyone have any ideas why "Road" would be abbreviated as R.D.?
Just out of interest...

R.D. = Registration District.
Foleshill was the Registration District for the death.
