Oswestry Edwards
« on: Friday 12 August 05 00:43 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have Richard Edwards in my tree born during 1850 in Oswestry. He was married to Mary in Ifton Heath sometime around 1875. They had Edward (1876), Stanley John (1878) Arthur (1880), Fanny (1882), Edith (1884), Ernest (1886) and Winnifred (1889), all born in St Martins.

Does this match anyone's tree? I would be grateful of any information.

               Regards, Richard George

Welcome to Rootschat Rick - the best family history site on the Net :D

Have you tried searching for any of the children's birth records.

The Civil Registration Index is available online at the following site:

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ This is an ongoing project so the transcription of the Index is not yet complete.  It is however free to search and free to view the results.

http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/ The index is complete on this site.  It is free to search, but you will have to pay to view the results.

If you are lucky enough to find them, the reference will show the year and quarter the birth was registered, the District, Volume and Page Number.  With this information you can then order the relevant birth certificate from the General Register Office http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

From the birth certificates you will be able to determine Mary's maiden name.

By the way, I did have a quick look on FreeBMD for Richard and Mary's marriage record. I did do the search for the years 1873 - 1888 but nothing appeared.  Maybe it hasn't been transcribed yet.

Have you found the family in any of the Census yet?  The 1881 is free to search online.  Here they are in 1881:-

RG11/2660, folio 26, page 10 Living at Toll Gate, St Martin(s), Shropshire

Richard Edwards Head 31 Occ: Hosier
Mary Edwards Wife 32
Thomas Edwards Son 7
Edward Edwards Son 5
John Edwards Son 3
Arthur Edwards Son 1

All were born St Martins.

For the other census I suggest you put separate requests on the Shropshire Look Up Board.

The 1901 census is available to search here http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Hope this help.

Jan

P.S.  Take a look at the BEGINNERS Board - it's full of useful information.

Hello My Grandmother was Fanny Edwards who married Thomas Edwards who was born in Malpas, and she died in 8/11/1927. My father was Cyril(Syd) Edwards and he also lived in St Martins until his death in 2003.
