BIGLEY from Irleland married an IMISON
« on: Thursday 18 August 05 15:05 BST (UK) »
I see in the Cheshire 1901 Census that a certain ARTHUR G BIGLEY FROM IRELAND was married to ARABELLA [nee IMISON].  They had a son CECIL BIGLEY.  Arthur G Bigley looks as though he had a job in the Docks Board but the writing is not clear.

In 1901 Arthur G Bigley  HEAD was 47  born in IRELAND

Arabella Bigley was 43 WIFE born in CHESHIRE RUNCORN

Cecil G Bigley  SON  6  LANCASHIRE LIVERPOOL

Amelia T {THISBE} Newton SISTER-IN-LAW born in CHESHIRE RUNCORN  35  widowed

Eric Newton NEWPHEW 8  CHESHIRE RUNCORN

Maud Tomlinson General Servant RUNCORN

of Parish TOXTETH PARK 1901 CENSUS

The sister-in-law of Arthur Bigley [ie SISTER OF ARABELLA] was AMELIA NEWTON [nee IMISON] who was the widow of WILLIAM TUNSTALL NEWTON.  Their son - the nephew of BIGLEY - was  ERIC, born in PEOVER.

Is their anyone with information please?  I would be most grateful to find out more about my family.

Dear Tanya

Thank you very much for posting information about Arthur B[r]igley and Arabella.

Does it say whether she was a teacher?

In 1881 she had been, but in days gone by, women teachers who married often left teaching, so it could still be her.

I am very grateful

best wishes

Imison

PS I do apologise for the 2 spelling errors in my original posting

IRELAND not Irleland

and THERE should be read for 'their'

My apologies for poor typing - sorry - I know how the enumerators must have felt!

Hi again, Imison.

Sorry, I didn't see you had posted a reply (whereas if you click on the 'reply' button to post a reply, I get an e-mail so I can see it).

No, there wasn't any occupation given for Arabella.

And although they were indeed down as BRigley, I agree they must be your ones - in fact, she's the only Arabella born Runcorn, as it seems.

Tanja  :)

P.S. First time I come across a 'stepgrandmother'!

Thank you so much for finding my family members - I am most grateful.

I know that ERIC lost both his parents and came to live with his cousins, CHARLES CUNNINGHAM, DOROTHY CUNNINGHAM AND BRUCE CUNNINGHAM.

However, is there anyone who knows which ERIC this might be?

He later became SURVEYOR FOR RUNCORN and family history has it that he was involved in the Mersey Bridge/Runcorn Bridge but I do not know precisely and cannot find details on the internet.

He was my uncle.

Thank you

IMISON

Hi Imison

I have merged your two related posts, makes thing a bit simpler.
I noticed from some of your other requests that you have been given the 1871 and 1861 census details for the Imisons, although I dont have any earlier info on Christopher (London is out of my area) I have turned up some census/marriage details for Sarah Imison.

Sarah Birchwood married Christopher Charles Imison in Manchester March qtr 1849 V20 P489
Their son John had the middle name of Birchwood. They also had another son also named Christopher Charles who died young in Runcorn 1859.

1851 census HO107-2164-Folio715  Overton Village Frodsham Runcorn

Amelia Birchwood head widow 60 farmer 9 acres born Liverpool
Juliet                     daug           17 born Overton
James Bayley servant              20 Overton
Joseph Hicks servant               16 Manley

1841 census HO107-97-08-PAGE2  Overton

John Birchwood 50 farmer
Amelia               50
John                  20
Sarah                25
Charlotte          18
Jane                  16
William               14
Juliet                  7
John                  1

I suspect the youngest may be a grandchild but you never know.

John Birchwood married Amelia Thisbe Halton 4/June/1811 at St Lawrence Cof E at Frodsham.

You can find out more about the BMD of your various Cheshire families at this link http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/

good luck

Dear Peter Bennett

Thank you very much for this information - very useful.

I have been in touch with the Irish part of the Rootschat, and the impression there is that it is indeed BRIGLEY although there were variations including BIGLEY and BRIGLY.

I have posted on the GENERAL IRELAND board and the OFFALY board if anyone is interested.

Thank you again for all your help. I have now found about 10 more relatives today through Rootschat.

I am greatly impressed by everyone's helpfulness.

Best wishes

IMISON
