HAWKINS of Lyme Regis
« on: Sunday 21 August 05 01:57 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the ancestry of my great x 3 grandmother, Hannah HAWKINS - who I believe was born in the Lyme Regis area in about 1784. She was the daughter of Henry HAWKINS, a joiner, and his wife Bridget nee SWAIN.

I have searched the baptisms register for all Dorset and Devon counties within a 5 mile radius of Lyme Regis without success. However, I found proof in the Dorset Record Office that the family were living in Lyme Regis in 1785. I have been unable to trace the baptism of her father either - which I estimate to about 1749.

The whole family emigrated to Guernsey in the 1790s.

Has anyone come across this family ?

Thanks in advance
