I do have the names of the children of the mentioned,
one branch of the family went to Lancashire.
Also a James Hobbs went with the 41st Regiment of Foot to Canada and was involved in the War with America in 1812.  They incorporated the Wiltshire Militia.  Due to the close prolixity of Market Lavington and Easterton to Salisbury plain, many have joined Regiments over the centuries.
A John Hobbs being a trooper in the English Civil War with Prince Maurice for example.
I wonder if James Hobbs and Eliza Lane were married in a Military Garrison thus not on Civil Registers?
Do you know what James did?  Maltser for example.

A person I know who is related to Ben Hobbs and Elizabeth Lane as direct descendants  has relatives in Ontario to this day.

Also I know another Hobbs who is a direct ancestor. also.

I'll find the information for you soon.

Chris.

The only guess I can give you is that Eliza Hobbs (Lane) was in the Parish of Easterton in 1901.  As was a James Hobbs - An Agricultural and Dairy Farmer.  Easterton was a tithe of Market Lavington until the late 1800's.  James having been born about 1860.

Dear Bryan

I have been in contact with you before about Thomas Hobbs of Potterne born 1802.  I know the Hobbs/Hobbes of the area go back until the 1600's, and odd clues come up to suggest they are linked to the Hobbs of Market Lavington and Easterton, its probably a question of when rather than wether.

Do you know there is a strong Hobbs predence at Bromham in Wiltshire also?

Hi Chris of Hants.
I too am looking for the Hobbs name in Wiltshire, My Gt Gt Grandfather was William Hobbs 1784 to 1837, born in Alderton, the son of a John and Betty Hobbs. William joined the Wilts Militia in 1803, and transferred to the 23rd Regt of Foot, and was discharged in November 1807, after amputaion of a leg, on to a Chelsea out patient pension. He married a Jane Andrews shortly after his discharge, but I cannot find his marriege.
Have you come across William in your research of the Hobbs name?

Any information welcome.
Thank you
Yewtree.

Good Morning Chris of Hants,

How much longer are you going to keep us in suspense ??? :D
Have you a William or haven't you ???

Hiya Yewtree, I wonder if the 23rd Regiment of Foot did a tour of duty in Ireland.
William may have fallen in love with Jane whilst there and returned to marry her when he was discharged. Andrews is a common name in some parts of Ireland :D

All the Best, Chris
