Hi Julie,

Does this look like the right family? (There are several Thomas Roses in Rowley Regis, but this is the only one with an Ann of the right age).

1891

Rose, Thomas   abt 1852   Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, Head , coal miner
Rose, Mary   abt 1853   Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, Wife
Rose, Jane   abt 1872   Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, Daughter, jewel maker
Rose, William   abt 1874   Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, Son
Rose, Sarah   abt 1877   Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, Daughter
Rose, Thomas   abt 1880   Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, Son
Rose, Joseph   abt 1883   Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, Son
Rose, Ann   abt 1885   Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, Daughter
Rose, George   abt 1887   Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, Son

I think that should read Rivet maker - not too many jewel makers in Rowley ;)
I am very excited about this post Julie because I have been looking at Rose-es from Rowley Regis because one of my lot came from there.

I think this is the same Thomas as Ros found for you

1861 Rowley Village, Rowley Regis,  Rg9-2038/70

Thomas Rose,head,m,41,coal miner,Staffs,RR
Sarah Rose,wife,m,39,Staffs,RR
Sarah Rose,dau,11,RR
Thomas Rose,son,9,RR
Ann Maria Rose,dau,6m,RR
Isral Morris,lodger,m,21,coal miner,Staffs,Tipton
Hannah Morris,wife,m,20,nailor,RR
George Morris,son,1,RR
James Morris,son,3w,RR

I am not sure there is any connection with my family - i need to have a go at the 1851 census really to sort out which family is which.

Hi Ros ;D
This looks like the right Roses, on ann's marriage cert her father Thomas is a coal miner by profession, and was also a witness, and signed his name 'x'. But what is bafflig me is what they were doing in shirebrook, even in the 1901 census they are still in Rowley Regis, all apart from Mother!
Thanks
Julie

Hi Gardner
I dont think that your Roses are the right bunch unfortunately, Ann has always been plain old Ann, and motherI am sure was Mary.Never mind, you never know we may still have a connection somewhere!
Thanks

Hi Julie
I think you misunderstood maybe. I was trying to give you your Thomas Rose (born 1852 and a coal miner in the 1891 from Ros) but in the 1861 census. He is there aged 9 with his parents Thomas and Sarah.  Can't be sure that it is correct but this family is living in the same bit of Rowley Regis and Thomas snr is a coal miner too.
The move to Shirebrook is  a bit puzzling isn't it? I just had a look at
http://www.pitwork.net/sbrook2.htm and it says there that the population at Shirebrook jumped from 567 in 1891 to 6200 in 1901! So probably your Rose family would move there in search of a better job or if they had lost their own jobs.
