Anyone want any searches or photos done in Whitehaven
« on: Tuesday 23 August 05 17:45 BST (UK) »
This is a one off limited offer 'cos I am bored and waiting for a job to start - I live in Whitehaven and have a little time to kill, so don't mind taking a few photos or doing simple searches in the records office

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your offer...
Could you get the details from the St Bees MI's of
Andrew Patterson or Pattinson, and his wife Frances (Mossop)
not sure when he died, about 1870ish

Thanks
Jim

If buried at St Bees I'll go photograph them as well

I used to work with Andrew Patterson (thought he looked old)

No problem, I am really getting bored with daytime telly

PATTERSON Mary (1852-)
PATTERSON Ann (1854-)

Thanks Andrew, although I have been told that the headstones have been taken down and are stacked up in the corner.

Geoff, Yes thats them alright, he named his first two children after his wifes parents...
My GG Grandfather was Andrew's (1823) brother.

Shouldn't be a problem as a lot of the gravestones up here have had that done, but they normally leave them up against the walls or laid down at one end of the churchyard.

Personally i dont think they have the right, when you get buried you buy that plot, and they shouldn't be moved, the history that gets lost - Look at Whitehaven George Washingtons grandmother's grave got lost 'cos they moved all the headstones, and they said all the remains were re-intured -- where at no-one knows.

Gravestones are records just as important any other records in a library

Anyway we'll see

My dear Andrew

Just stumbled across your thread and my heart quickened when I saw mention of PATTINSON & Whitehaven avec St. Bees from Jim and Geoff E!

I feel very bad because I do not have certain information to give to you... but if you happen to be in a Whitehaven Anglican grave yard when the surnames of PATTINSON and/or RUSSELL demand your attention (death circa 1870-1901) you know where to find me! :) [First names of James, Joseph, Elizabeth & Mary most common. (sigh)]

Sincerely, Donna
Shropshire: James, Lawley, Mumford, Dyer
Cumberland: Pattinson, Russell, Knight, Hanna, Durham
