Niblock/Hughes Liverpool

This is a long shot........But here goes!!!

I have in my possession, a photograph of a little boy called
Allan Niblock, taken I would think in the 1930's

I am hoping I can some how link this photograph to my Hughes family , from West Derby.

I also have a photo of a couple and their three children, written on the back is:-   To Ciss and Jack with best wishes from Annie and Ike. The children's names are Leonard 3yrs 7mths Annie     20mths and Frank 5months . This photo, was taken in Canada
about 1922/23.

I think the Mother,  Annie may have been my grandmothers sister, her maiden name would have been Hughes.

In those day's, Ike would have been a very unusual nick name.
I have found a Isaiah Niblock, married to a Annie Hughes in 1917.  Do's  any one agree that  Ike and Isaiah could be one and the same person? Niblock is certainly some where in my family, or  gran would not have kept a photo of young Allan.

Is there any one out there researching Niblocks?

I had a quick look a the name Niblock for you.

Based on information received in the census, it looks like your Niblocks originated in Scotland.

In the 1881 Census there were 152  Niblocks

If we look more closely at Lancashire

I tried the 1901 census but could not find Isiah Niblock, but this does not cover Scotland 

It does sound quite likely too me !

Good Morning Sarah.

Thank you so much for looking up my "Niblocks".

I have actually found Isaiah, on the 1881 census, living with his
parents and siblings, at 2 Lower Cross Street. Wavertree.

I think he may have been a seaman,and that is why he does not appear on the 1901 census. Quite a few of my family members were sailors, so it could well be so with Isaiah.

It is so nice to be able to "run things past" other people who are interested in genealogy, rather than just pondering on a
problem. I have had more things solved in the 3 weeks since
I joined rootschat, than I could ever have done on my own ,
with out going all over the country.

Floridagirl (Viv) is very kindly getting me the details of Isaiah and
Annies wedding, hopefully I can then claim this couple as my
great aunt and uncle. I'm sure that Isaiah is my "Ike"

Hello Jeannie

I have just started researching my husbands family history and have found out that the Allan Niblock you have a picture of as a boy is my husbands Grandfather who passed away in Adelaide South Australia in the early 90's.

I am now aware that his parents are indeed Isaiah and Annie.

I was wondering if it is possible to get copies of the photos you are discussing in this post.

I would be delighted to send you the photographs, and help you with any other information that you need. I have done a lot of research since that posting.

Allan was born February 26th 1924, in Montreal. He married Sheila at Wallasey in 1946,^(*)

Leonard, Allan's eldest brother died fairly recently, also in Australia. I am in touch with his grandaughter.

Annie Niblock, nee Hughes, was my grandmother's sister. She was one of ten children, born to William Richard Hughes, and Isabella Dagwell. They were married in 1864, at Chester Cathedral. I have their wedding photograph. I have the Hughes family back to 1760.

Isaiah, deserted Annie and the children in Montreal. She managed to get back to England, and worked as a stewerdess on cruise liners, between Liverpool and New York. The children spent time in a orphanage. She remarried in 1935, and spent time with her 2nd husband in the States

Thats wonderful information!

We were trying to work out why and when Allan was in the orphanage. My husband is the son of Diane (Allan's oldest) and Sheila is still alive in Adelaide.

I found out the immigration info to Australia only 5 minutes ago at http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsReports/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=7341210

I appreciate the picture and a clearer history very much and look forward to speaking with you.

P.S. I am pretty new to this as you can see. I have been researching my fathers history but have decided that I have acheived enough and better start on my husbands.
