Advice on BMD registration districts
« on: Saturday 27 August 05 12:23 BST (UK) »
Like many others I am struggling researching common Welsh surnames in my tree and contributing handsomely to the GRO holiday fund, with so far a poor hit rate!
It would help if I could be confident that the birth certs I want are sure to be registered at Anglesey and not e.g. Bangor or Caernarvon.
I am after two births at addresses in Amlwch, one from 1855/56 and one from 1860. Also one born in Llaneilian 1842/43.
Does anyone know whether these births would ordinarily have been registered at the Anglesey district office?
Thanks.

Hi

Amlwch is certainly Angelsey, you might find this link useful

http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/

You can check by place or district

Thanks for that Chris. That site seems to show Llaneilian in the Anglesey district as well, although it spells it 'Llanellian'. I guess its the same place.

Try writing direct to the local office in Anglesey.  They generally return the cheque if the information does not match up with what is on the certificate.  GRO just swallow your money - or most of it anyway!   If you look on FreeBMD and click on the blue writing for the district on the particular entry you want it tells you which areas it covers via a link to the Genuki site.

Hi Peterej;

I have seen the amlwchdata site. As you say it has lots of interesting content. I have found the info on memorial inscriptions particularly useful.

Thanks.
