Militia Whitby Yorks 1796

I wonder if someone could give me some advice on where to look for info on Militia online.
My G granma x8 married a soldier called Patrick layland/leland in 1796 and I`m trying to find out which army unit was in the Whitby N.yorks area in 1796 I`ve been told "it wa nt the North Yorkshire Militia as they were down here in Essex, camped out on Danbury Common". Can anybody help with the unit or point me in the right direction to look
