violet cook scarborough to u.s.a
« on: Saturday 03 September 05 11:18 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me, I am having problems finding marriage and emigration records for my great aunt Violet.
The details I do have are as follows
Violet  cook  born  may  1871  scarborough
parents Robert George Cook and Catherine Callaghan living in the Tyson street area.
We know she emigrated to Los Angeles, lived in district 26,
had 2 children Kenneth and Catherine, and died in september 1956.
The problem I am having is finding any record of her emigrating to America, and tracing a marriage in either the UK or America, as all I know is her married name was Nichols, I have no idea of her husbands  Christian name.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi ashleigh,

I had a quick look through the Ellis Island records, but could not find her as Cook or Nichols, but it was a very quick look. I would check yourself.   www.ellisisland.org  This is an on-line database of all immigrants who passed though the Ellis Island immigration centre between 1892 and 1924. (Free, but you have to register).

I would recommend posting a message on the Emmigrants to the USA board (go back to the main Rootschat page - scroll down, below all the lists of county boards you will find the immigrant/emigrant boards).  There are lots of people there with access to US census and BMD records who might be able to help you.  Give as much detail as possible in your post about what you already have, including how you know that she lived in Los Angeles and how you know her date of death.

Good luck and welcome to Rootschat!

Martha

Hi ashleigh,

I realize this is an old post. Are you still looking for this information?

I have found her in the census records, her 2nd marriage record as well her death record and death certificate.
