yes, I have tried 1837 site.  No luck :'( :'(
I am not sure they married in Gibraltar but their son William was born there in 1844 and as he had the same name as his father, I was thinking he may have been the first child or at least the first son born. As Johanna was born approx. 1821 (Spain)  she would have been having children approx.  1840 onwards. All educated guesses here.  I just thought that maybe William met Johanna in Gibraltar or there abouts.  I suppose I need to find some records of Williams' postings as a member of Britains forces.  But Where?????????

Kathleen, look at this:

A William JARVIS married in the Blaby (covers Glenfield) registration district, Leicestershire 1840 and one of the four possible spouses a Johanna Mary LUCA BRO?

http://www.freebmd.rootsweb.com or http://www.ancestry.co.uk

If it's the correct marriage then Johanna Mary would certainly make sense with being called Johanna on one census and Mary on another.

What do you think ???

Dear Casalguidi
I have just received the marr. cert. of William and Johanna and it is them.  It has also given me the fathers names of both.  it looks like I have some Spanish in me.  Quite a surprise!

Hi Kathleen

That's wonderful news ;D

How exciting to have your family history all around the world with all that army travel and now some Spanish ancestry as well :)

Maybe that is where I have got my olive skin and brown eyes from......these are my dads ancestors and he was olive-skinned also, while my mum and 2 sisters were fair and blue-eyed.  I always wondered why Dad and I were different ;) ;) ;) ;)
Do you think that Spanish blood could show up 3 generations later???????
