I wonder if someone can help me ,I'm trying to trace my gt gt grandfather he was born 1833 thats all it says on the census is that he came from Carmarthen,he came to south Wales and married a Mary Maddocks they lived in a little village called Nantymoel [llandyfodwg] he worked as a carpenter in the colliery, he should be on some of the census forms from Carmarthen ,but I can't seem to find him.

Hi rarebit ;D

if you tell us which census you found Edward on and post the full details we can have a look for him.

There are quite a few entries for Edward Edwards on the censuses so we need a bit more information to locate the correct one.

Regards
Darcy

Hello Darcy ,I've just been looking for Edward again ,I've found him on the 1871 Census it said he was born in Llanarthney Carmarthen ,on the 1881 it say;s he was born in Llangynwyd [that is in south Wales] on the 1901 it says again that he was born in Carmarthen ,he was born in c1843 ,I can,t find him on the 1861 census for South Wales so I looked him up on the Carmarthen one ,but I can't find anything about Llanarthney ,maybe you can help me ? thank you Marion

Hi rarebit ;D

sorry for the delay in answering. I haven't been online for a few days.

Going by Edwards occupation and age on the 1871 census I'd say this is the correct entry.

Llanegwad Carmarthenshire

Penyenive?

David Thomas, head, mar, 54, Carpenter, Llanegwad Carmarthen.
Dina, wife, 60, Carpenter's Wife, Brechfa Carmarthen.
Jane, dau, un,12, Llanegwad Carmarthen.
Edward Edwards, workman 18, Workman, Llanegwad Carmarthen.

Hi Marion,

I don't mind at all. You can bother me anytime.  ;D

I'll have a look and see if I can find James in 1861.

Hi Marion,

I think the " Pembrokeshire" on the 1871 census is a mistake. It looks to me like James was born in Broughton Gifford Wiltshire.

Do you know the names of his parents? Here is a possibilty from the 1861 census. The Occupation is correct and there is a Welsh connection. Let me know what you think. ;D

Bedminster Bristol

Samuel Keen, head, mar, 31, Coal Miner, Melksham Wiltshire
Jane, wife, 32, Aberdare Glamorganshire
James, son, 15, Coal Miner, Wiltshire
Ann, dau, 10, Scholar, Wiltshire
Phillip. son, 8, Scholar, Wiltshire
Eliza, dau, 6, Scholar, Aberdare Glamorganshire
Rachel, dau, 1, Cwnham Monmouthshire
