Hi telephonist,

Have you tried the resources listed on the post Some resources for genealogists researching NZ relatives?
Since you know the year and port of arrival, the shipping lists on-line might have them. If not, post again, and I'll try.

Hi telephonist,

I checked the Petone Settlers Museum database, but only found two SUMNER's, arrived 1859 and 1876. The database programme is decrepit, poorly designed with separate databases to search, inaccurate by their own admission, and badly needs upgrading, so don't worry about a negative return. They're out there somewhere, so keep looking.

Have you tried the Picton Historical Society Museum for other information about your family? You might find clues there. There is no website, but write to them at P O Box 120, Picton, Marlborough, New Zealand.
