Fenelon from Kilcullen
« on: Thursday 08 September 05 12:40 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please help me find information on Marie Fenelon from Hillside, Kilcullen.  I think she had a brother Paddy married to Sue and they had three or four children.
Marie was born 3rd June, 1896.

I think she emigrated to Australia in the 20's or 30's.

I know this is sketchy but it is all I have at present.

Thank you

Vallence, Vallens,

Dear Lily,

You appear to have been waiting three months for a reply. Did you get a PM or email? I am surprised no one has had the courtesy to spare the time to have a quick look at this site http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php and post you a reply. I tend to concentrate on the nine counties in the old Province of Ulster. Recently I have been looking at Dublin and neighbouring counties. I feel I must apologise that you have waited so long.

Well that is the chit chat over. You are looking for Fenelon. I searched for that and received a nil result. I then did a search using letter F only and a message informed me at least three letters are required. I searched using Fen in Griffiths Valuation of Ireland - Kildare 1851. It shows several people named Fenlon. There was a Patrick Fenlon living at Kilmurry in the parish of Dunfierth. There is no mention of Kilcullen but maybe the family moved during the 40 year period before Marie's birth.

Best Wishes, Christopher

Thanks for that information Christoper. No, didn't receive an email, but in the meantime I found out that Her father was Denis and mother Kate  and that Denis worked for Nolan Bros butchers in Main St, Kilcullen.      Will try and contact them I think and see if anyone may remember them.

Regards
Lily

Hello Lily, I'm researching for information on Marie Fenelon who married Henry Joseph Vallence in 1930 Victoria, Australia. I know she left the UK in 1926 to Melbourne. I found some info from someone's tree on Ancestry who gave the same birthdate for her as yourself, you also gave her parents & brothers name which is very useful to me. Have you found anymore information about her life in Australia? I know she died 1985 and is buried at Bacchus Marsh, Victoria.
Hope you can help
Janet

Hi thassos
I've been in contact with Lily about this family not too long ago, so hopefully she will respond to your post, in the mean while I'll send you by PM a link than may interest you.

The family's name is different on both Census and on the children's birth certs which doesn't make them easy to find, if the boys hadn't worked in Nolan's probably wouldn't have found them. I fairly sure it's the correct family.

Thank you Sinann, the death of Patrick & the variations of their surname on the census is helping to build a picture of Marie's life before leaving Ireland. Janet
